Simona Supercars video coming soon

Hey guys,

My next Supercars video is nearly ready. This morning I have done a bit of editing for it. I changed the editing style slightly as well. At the moment, I don't have an intro or outro for it, and I haven't put the references on the clips, but it's looking pretty solid. It is half as long as the retirement video, being 10 minutes long rather than 22.

I'm still not proud of it, but I do want to produce Supercars videos and definitely want to have more than one done by the end of the year.

I might do a video on this year's silly season, as I've done a lot of thinking about who would go where for next year's championship.

I'm going to make the Simona thumbnail, get in touch with Mickell Pickell about doing a chat series on Mabeanie2, and then probably do more Supercars stuff. I've been pretty obsessed with Supercars lately, checking my sources for news and listening to podcasts at lunch time. Next weekend is the season finale, so I'll probably take time off doing Supercars things for a bit after that.

Anyway, that's your update.

See Ya!

Slowly getting there

Hey guys,

So again I come to report on my progress on my next Supercars video.

As I described in a previous post, I'm looking for a topic that really clicks with me. I'm slowly getting there. I have 3 ideas in the works that I am the most passionate about: Simona De Silvestro and difficulty in the category, the changing of the guard and when exactly it happens, and when the most competitive seasons were.

The first two are my biggest favourites, with the changing of the guard probably being my first preference. It's a complicated topic that demands preciseness, which makes it a little fun. It's so complicated that half of that idea is just coming to a solid idea of what a changing-of-the-guard is, how to spot it, and when it has happened in the past. So far my answer has been that such a change happens almost every season. It's a slow and ongoing process. So then I've gone on and on, getting really tangled in it. Like I said, it's a little fun.

The Simona one is an issue that gets to the heart of how freaking difficult it is to get in and stay in the category. Dismissing a driver as just being not good enough is unfair if you consider all of the factors that go into results.

I think that the changing of the guard one will probably go first. It's more personal to me, so I want to talk about it.

So that's your update for my future reference.
Enjoy! Just generally.

See Ya!

Assassin's Creed 2 LP over

Hey guys,

Tuesday was the final episode of my Assassin's Creed 2 series. Obviously I didn't finish the game, and when I last attempted to record for it the game wouldn't work because of some error with Uplay.

Anyway, now TheMabeanie will have mainly Friday Night Fun videos, which this month will be more commonly posted there due to the plan. There will be 75% of Friday Night Fun videos on TheMabeanie. This channel probably took the longest to... Actually no, Mabeanie2 hasn't had a video that is in keeping with the plan yet, so TheMabeanie is the second slowest with MrMabeanie still waiting for its next Supercars video.

It's a difficult position to be in, but I know that it's what I want to do. The plan is all about being true to myself and doing what I want, rather than what I think I should do.

So now the lack of gaming videos will become more noticeable on MrMabeanie, with Seedscribers having a few more videos to go before I have done an episode for everyone. TheMabeanie might become a more pleasant channel with videos that I want to make actually going there. Friday Night Fun in general has been struggling to get views, but I think that it's because of the games that I'm choosing to play. I have a video idea, but will probably go on to TheMabeanie.

Anyway, that's your update.

See Ya!

The kind of Supercars videos that I want to make.

I don't know if the idea came through in my Supercars retirement video, but my videos will not be just my opinion, but an argument based on things that I have learned from doing research, watching relevant videos, reading articles, and looking at race results.

Retirement is a topic close to my heart. Early on, when I started learning about the drivers and teams in late 2016, I realised that things don't always work out well for drivers.

That video idea did not come easily either, so this time around is just as difficult.

I don't want to just spout my opinion. Anybody can do that.

I want to make videos that get to the heart of an issue and engage people in a way that helps them think more critically and impartially (or as impartial as possible) about things.

The five topics that I've done this past week are:
  • when the golden era of Supercars was
  • what it's like to be a fan of Supercars
  • Supercars.com sucks
  • the Foxtel deal with Supercars
  • is Supercars dying?
Foxtel and Supercars dying are the two topics that I'm more passionate about, but I don't think it's quite clicked yet.

Last time it was Craig Lowndes' retirement announcement that saw be burn through a day writing the essay. I don't know what I can do except to just keep at it.

I figured that I should write down what I want in my videos, so there you go.

See Ya!

Have I been meeting the plan?

Hey guys,

The transitions across my three channels, but especially MrMabeanie, have been slow. Despite this, I am staying true to the plan. I will now list how Friday Night Fun has been going, since it has been uploaded on both TheMabeanie and MrMabeanie. This month, it will be on both channels with either 2 episodes on each channel or 3 on TheMabeanie. So here we go, a list of my Friday Night Fun episodes across the board since and including June 2018:

June 2018 (episodes on TheMabeanie to get people warmed up to the idea)
IHNT hard questions - 15th June, on MrMabeanie.
Angry V8s - 22nd June, on TheMabeanie.
Realisation and Davison - 29th June, on TheMabeanie.

I launched the plan on the 20th of June.

July 2018 (100% episodes on MrMabeanie)
Thanks Lowndesy - 6th July, on MrMabeanie.

Was busy working on my Supercars retirement video.

August 2018 (75% episodes on MrMabeanie)
Sydney SuperNight game - 3rd August, on TheMabeanie.
Fords only - 17th August, on MrMabeanie.
Hard fought - 24th August, on MrMabeanie.
Fun but then not - 31st August, on MrMabeanie.

The main thing that I do is upload the episode onto TheMabeanie so that I am staying committed to the plan, whether or not there are any episodes for the rest of the month.

I will probably do two Fridays in a row on TheMabeanie for this month. I don't have any plans for those days, although I might go out for drinks with mates. Who knows.

Nevertheless, so far so good for the plan. I haven't uploaded the parts of Ihasnotomato and I's discussion about the essay-type videos that we both now do, but Mabeanie2 will get those videos starting on the week of the 26th of September at the earliest.

I'm organising my time to focus on the various things that I do these days: applying for jobs, working on my comic, working on Supercars videos, and posting videos onto YouTube. This week is jobs week, then it will be comics, then Supercars (because the Sandown 500 is on the 16th), and finally videos. I still post AIM videos, but I'm not working on any other video - no matter how much I want to do it. Whenever I get an idea for a Supercars video, you can bet that I'm writing that down.

That's everything that I have for you now.

See Ya!

Difficulties with Seedscribers

Hey guys,

I spent part of today writing the descriptions for a bunch of Seedscribers episodes that will become public in the next few months.

After doing this, I've realised a few things:
  • I have 86 subscribers total
  • 51 public subscribers
  • 65 Seedscribers episodes (35 who are still subbed)
  • 4 public subscribers that I'm not doing (my own channels)
  • 11 episodes to record
In fact, some of the episodes that will go public in the next few months are not publically subbed, so I don't know if they are subbed at all.

The best that I can do is to not make those episodes public and only post episodes for the ones who are publically subbed.

If AIM is not publically subscribed (and I know that it is actually subbed), then either YouTube switched the settings on everybody's subscriptions so that they are all private unless you switch them, or the changes took place in 2011.

Not sure. I will update you on this more if I think of anything else.

See Ya!

Thoughts on the goings so far

Hey guys,

I got a comment on my TheMabeanie Road to 2019 video:

In the video itself, I found no particular focus on making Supercars videos until the end, where I say that MrMabeanie will become Supercars Mabeanie. The comment suggested to me that I did a poor job at explaining my plans, or maybe they watched all of them and commented on the TheMabeanie one. A lot goes unexplained, but I must admit that I didn't run the video by anybody before making it public.

Another thought I had recently was that I had the idea of, whenever I put Friday Night Fun on TheMabeanie/MrMabeanie, I would post the clip and link video on the other channel. This only makes sense for MrMabeanie, as I want to divert people to TheMabeanie if they want gaming content. Directing people to MrMabeanie would have the opposite effect, so I will no longer put videos on TheMabeanie that send people to MrMabeanie for gaming content.

I look forward to doing Assetto Corsa again this coming Friday.

Thanks for reading,
See Ya!

2019 plan breakdown

Hey guys,

I have released three videos outlining my plans for each of my three personal channels. They do not go into much detail, so I will break down each plan.

MrMabeanie

This channel will be called Supercars Mabeanie by 2019 and will only have videos about the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

The channel name will change on January 1st, 2019, to Supercars Mabeanie.

From now until then, there will be less gaming videos. They will instead go to TheMabeanie.

Friday Night Fun will be uploaded less on MrMabeanie and more so on TheMabeanie. This bit is pretty complicated, so I'll break it down. Firstly, there can only be a maximum of 4 FNFs per month.
If 4 (maximum possible) FNFs are made:
  •  July - 100% (4) FNF on MrMabeanie.
  • August - 75% on MrMabeanie, 25% on TheMabeanie (3 videos on Mr. and 1 on The.)
  • September - 50% (2) on Mr. and 50% (2) on The
  • October - 25% (1) on Mr. and 75% (3) on The.
  • November - 0%  (none) on Mr. and 100% (4) on The.
  • December - settling-in period across all channels, 100% FNF on TheMabeanie.
I cannot predict the future, so there may not be 4 or even 1 Friday Night Fun per month. In that case, because the goal is about FNF being uploaded more to TheMabeanie, I will focus on having an FNF on that channel.
What if there is no FNF one month? Then I stick to the plan.
If only 1 FNF:
  • 1 FNF - 100% MrMabeanie (July) then goes on that channel.
  • 1 FNF - 75% MrMabeanie (August) then still goes on that channel.
  • 1 FNF - 50% MrMabeanie (September) then goes onto TheMabeanie.
  • 1 FNF - 25% MrMabeanie (October) then goes onto TheMabeanie, and so on until the end of December.
If only 2 FNFs:
  • 2 FNF - 100% MrMabeanie then goes on that channel.
  • 2 FNF - 75% then on MrMabeanie.
  • 2 FNF - 50% then one on MrMabeanie and the other goes on TheMabeanie.
  • 2 FNF - 25%  then they go on TheMabeanie. In November and December, all FNFs go on TheMabeanie.
If 3 FNFs:
  • 3 FNF - 100% MrMabeanie then goes on that channel.
  • 3 FNF - 75% then 2 go on MrMabeanie and 1 goes on TheMabeanie.
  • 3 FNF - 50% then 1 goes on MrMabeanie and 2 go on TheMabeanie.
  • 3 FNF - 25% then 1 on Mr. and 2 on The. In November and December, all FNFs go on TheMabeanie.
Schedule
The schedule of Monday and Friday videos will still be followed. When there are NO FNF videos on MrMabeanie only because they are on TheMabeanie, then Seedscribers will be uploaded in order to ensure that all of that series is uploaded.
On Monday, Supercars videos will be uploaded whenever they are ready. Seedscribers episodes will be uploaded there every week until they run out.
Update videos will be uploaded whenever.
A video will be uploaded onto MrMabeanie if a Friday Night Fun is public on TheMabeanie during this transfer period. The video will show a clip from the FNF episode and have a link to the TheMabeanie channel afterwards.

TheMabeanie

There will be no more Let's Play episodes from the launch of the plan on the 20th of June 2018, and only Assassin's Creed 2 will be uploaded on Tuesdays from the 26th of June onwards. No more Bioshock or Spec Ops: The Line videos.

Friday Night Fun will occasionally appear (as explained in the MrMabeanie breakdown above). The first on TheMabeanie will hopefully be on Friday 22nd of June 2018, this week!
Whenever a FNF is on MrMabeanie, then a video with a clip and in-video link to the channel will appear on TheMabeanie.
Other gaming videos will appear on TheMabeanie on Thursdays whenever they are available.

The channel name will change to Mabeanie Games on January 1st, 2019. It will be the only place to find my solo gaming videos.

Mabeanie2

Mabeanie2 will become a channel featuring me talking about whatever I want. There may be guests from time to time.

On Wednesdays, there will be a new video. If there is any leftover footage from a montage or highlights video (henceforth called a bonus video) on MrMabeanie, then it will appear here. If there is both a bonus video and a talking video, then both will appear.

On January 1st, 2019, Mabeanie2 will be renamed to Mabeanie Talks. Also from that day forwards then there will no longer be any bonus videos.

Note
I hope that I have thought this through well enough. Feel free to ask any questions, as I am a mere mortal and cannot predict the future or be bothered to spend so much time thinking of every possible scenario.
I have a Twitter if you would rather Tweet me, or feel free to comment in any of my videos. The main problem is commenting here on this blog. I don't get notified! https://twitter.com/MrMabeanie/.

Thanks for reading.
 See Ya!

Post-Uni, I am lost.

Hey guys,

I finished Uni on June 8th, and went on holiday with my family for the long weekend.

On Monday I got home and spent the week relaxing.

On Wednesday I did a bit of Pickle-Shaped Peanuts stuff, since it's been a year since the last video on that channel. I should make sure to get some videos up for Mickell Pickell to edit.

It was race weekend for Supercars, and I very much enjoyed catching up. At first, I was very unsure about whether I wanted to because of how much I missed out on. I started catching up on that Wednesday, and by Friday I was caught up for the most part. There are still bits and pieces that I will have to find. Nevertheless, I am understanding how the series is going right now, although unsure about the "return" of Ford to the championship with the Mustang Supercar due to debut next year.

I feel like I have gained very little from Uni, even though I am very aware of the things that I have gained. The 18-year-old who drove to his Australian History exam knew nothing compared to the 22-year-old who has driven to many since then. In terms of my Resume, there is not much to add from the three and a half years of Uni. I put Project Management because I have done many projects with lots of different people. I still feel like the jobs that would be ideal for me (like I know what they are *sarcasm*) are beyond reach, but I think this is for a lack of trying. Once I get moving I think that things will start feeling better.

I also have to get back into the swing of all of my hobbies: comics and YouTube videos mainly. Today I made myself work on videos, and I'm still working on them now. It was for the best and I think that it has been sufficient to get me moving again. What is in my brain in terms of knowing how to do stuff is more able to do the work than the part of my brain that has been pegged to Uni work, YouTube viewing, and Civilization 5 for the past four months.

It's an emotional problem, but I'm working through it.

Will a Supercars Mabeanie channel succeed?

Hey guys!

The answer is yes. At least the data suggests so.

In the last quarter, the views that my channel has received have been directed at both of my Supercars-related videos.

Focusing on the views made by subscribers,

my Friday Night Fun V8 Supercars 3 video got 28% of watch time (28 min) and 1 view in this quarter (Jan. 1st to Mar. 20th, 2018), and my 2018 Supercars predictions video got 20% (19 min) and 2 views.

In addition, the predictions video got a 100% viewing average across the 2 views, whereas my V8s 3 FNF video got a 67% viewing average for its only view of the quarter.

Remembering that this is only about the views and watch time from existing subscribers to my channel, I already have an audience for Supercars videos. One thing that should also be noted is that such content is not regular, and may have been viewed because of its unusual nature on my predominantly gaming-related channel.

Looking at the channel overall,

the Supercars predictions video comes in 2nd in terms of watch time after my long-time most popular video, the envelope edit tool tutorial. The tutorial got 72% of the watch time this quarter, with 520 minutes of watch time, with the predictions getting 3.9% and 28 minutes of watch time.

In terms of views, the tutorial remains at the top with 523 (61%), and the predictions fall down to be 9th in the order with 6 views (0.7%).

Hooking an audience

One of the positives of the Supercars video is the number of viewers who aren't subscribers. What's more is that the average viewing duration doesn't just drop off after the first second, and reaches halfway through the video. In addition, one person (out of the 7) watched for 100% of the time and is from New Zealand, a prime Supercars location. This means that I'm reaching an audience. All I have to do is target them and bring them in by focusing on things that they may be interested in, while also maintaining my own interest.

I also hope to collaborate with other Supercars channels such as Supercars with Shane, and Hobbo88 (mostly a racing simulator channel but he's a fan of Supercars with a fanbase that comes with it).

I'm quite excited about the future of MrMabeanie in its future identity as Supercars Mabeanie. However, I should play it safe by testing the waters of Supercars videos before I fully commit.

See Ya!

PS: I also hope to use my friend Ihasnotomato to draw extra attention to my channel by doing more collaborations.

Why I've ever had any success on YouTube

2010 - videos on popular things, but not so many videos that I burn people out.
2011 - videos on popular things, although quite a large amount of them.
2012 - none of the stuff that succeeded in previous years, and doing more seedscribers was not a good move. xmas video did well for no reason, and a video on a popular thing did well also.
2013 - no plan, just doing what i felt like. huge variety of content.
2014 - continuing with 2013's success, and bailing out before it got too repetitive.
2017 - milking friendship with ihasnotomato, variety but old stuff.

Big Changes on my YouTube channels

Hey guys,

Since Ihasnotomato launched Ihasnotomato Draws, and explained how he came to the decision, I've been thinking about making similar changes to my channels.

For almost 8 years, I've been doing gaming videos. This doesn't represent the way that I see myself anymore.

Right now, I want to change the following:

  • MrMabeanie -> Supercars Mabeanie
  • TheMabeanie -> Mabeanie Gaming
  • Mabeanie2 -> Mabeanie Talks
The way that I've come to this decision is different to how Ihasnotomato came to his.
Tomato launched Ihasnotomato Draws because he wanted to draw (no pun intended) more attention to his artwork and related projects. Another factor was that the drawing videos were considered by his viewers to be extra content to his TF2 content, rather than equally important.

The situation is very different on my own channels.

MrMabeanie is not about anything in particular. I run Friday Night Fun as well as a bunch of different series on Mondays. One of my greatest passions is Supercars, and I think that it will be a good change to reorganise all of my channels to represent me better.

TheMabeanie has never had any videos that take attention away from gaming videos, and has been more about gaming than MrMabeanie due to the former's focus on Let's Plays. If I move Friday Night Fun onto TheMabeanie, and have all gaming content be on TheMabeanie, then this may serve to reinvigorate TheMabeanie and improve its standing amongst my channels.

Mabeanie2 has always been the junior of the three channels. Its content has always been extra to MrMabeanie, and I would like to do more videos in which I talk about things. So Mabeanie2 will become equal next to its older brothers and also serve a more unique purpose.

The channel that I'm most concerned about is MrMabeanie, because I don't expect my passion to last forever. Of course, there is nothing wrong with changing things when necessary, and I haven't come up with very many ideas on what videos I could do. This is mainly because I haven't been focused on that part.

Just thinking out loud :)

See Ya!

What Really Matters

Hey guys,

I've been talking about doing a big change on my channels, but the problem here is that I should focus on preparing for my final semester at Uni rather than doing big things on YouTube.
I want to do Supercars-related content on MrMabeanie, but it won't be suitable for my studies.

I procrastinated a lot last year, and this impacted on my self-confidence and grades at Uni. When I procrastinated, I focused on Supercars. Yesterday I decided not to have anything to do with Supercars during the semester. I will also spend every day, including weekends, working on my assignments. This makes February a time for preparation. I will certainly miss out on the first half of the Supercars season, but I will probably watch the second half.

My focus on my studies is not about getting a chance to do further studies. I'm tired of studying. However, I am due to graduate at the end of the semester. I don't think it's fair on myself or anybody who has supported me to carry on as I have been (especially in the past year) and scrape passes on my assignments. I've spent enough time at Uni to know that time and effort makes good assignments. I think that it's the right thing to do, as much as it hurts to feel that I will be without one of my greatest passions for half a year. Perhaps I will feel more passionate when I return. Having recently pledged $125 to be a Team Member of Garry Rogers Motorsport, I will hopefully feel very happy about my decision to do the right thing and focus on my studies.

In addition, I am trying to have videos (on all of my channels) scheduled into June/July, or as long as the recording sessions have allowed on AIM Industries. I intend to have another one or two recording sessions with Ihasnotomato before the end of the month, just to make sure that everything will run like clockwork in the first half of 2018.

Thanks and See Ya!

Pretty busy

Hey guys,

So I returned to my channels and the first thing that became apparent was that I wasn't prepared. Many of the videos aren't ready for uploading. Some things on TheMabeanie are fine. Bioshock and Assassin's Creed 2 don't need much changing, and neither does MCBS: CC.

The real problem is having all of the videos, when they are scheduled, titled, described, and tagged. If YouTube was the only thing I did, then there wouldn't be many excuses. Because I also make comics, and I'm trying to release an anniversary comic this month, I don't give myself much time to work on YouTube. Of course, I should make sure that I instantly get cracking on this sort of stuff as soon as I'm dressed.

I'm just not motivated to do it when I don't get many views. Another thing is that I'm reconsidering my approach almost every day. The Let's Plays are not my favourite thing, and neither is what I'm uploading to MrMabeanie, so I want to makes changes to the content. I'm a little inspired by the content that Ihasnotomato releases, and want to create content that makes MrMabeanie look like what it's supposed to be - a high quality channel.

Right now, the plan is to upload everything that I've recorded over the years as I intended. Then, when everything has dried up - although the channels all have different amounts of content - I will start releasing videos that I'm more excited about. On MrMabeanie, Friday Night Fun will stay, but the content on Mondays will probably change. I have no ideas for TheMabeanie. Maybe Mabeanie2 will change.

I will continue to ponder.

See Ya!

Hello Tumblr

It’s been a few months since I blogged in any way. I’ll copy this over to Blogger tomorrow (I didn't).

It’s Sunday, which means that by choice I am off the computer. It’s new year’s eve and I’ve had a bad year at uni in terms of grades. My comics have been going fine, with two coming out this year. That’s the average, with the most being three in 2010. December was also the 10-year anniversary of my comics. I wanted to make something special and release it around the anniversary time, but my prioritisation of uni meant that everything except for it and YouTube was kept in the back of my mind. When I procrastinated on uni work, it had a worse effect on comics and magazines. I spent time learning about the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship. I could have made a magazine or worked on my comics, but I did not.

There are a few ways of making up for these shortcomings. I could declare 2018 the anniversary year of my comics. I could quickly make the celebratory comic right now, but I’m exhausted from working on things all year. I could just decide not to do the comic, but that’s too easy. I may just do the celebratory comic in January and apologise for its lateness.

I will dwell on this.
