Why do we celebrate New Years?

It seems pointless to celebrate something that could be perceived as being inevitable.

2017 will come and it will be roughly 365 days long.

What is there in a new year to celebrate?

A new beginning? A person having another go at life. Can't they just fix their problems when the problems arrive rather than wait for the new year to magically fix them.

There are a lot of people on the internet complaining that 2016 was a bad year because famous people who were also not in their peak of health, and therefore suffering from something, died. That so many people failed to understand the American political system makes it a bad year? No. People simply launch into easy conclusions while observers watch curiously and come up with ideas to play with that ultimately are not supposed to mean anything. e.g. Hoping that Donald Trump was talking rubbish the whole time and that the American system would force him to fit into the cookie-cut President that has worked out so well over the decades.

A new year cannot fix your problems. Get over yourself. Take on your problems one at a time and stop relying on the 12-month calendar to reset your life to factory default.

If you expect things to somehow improve because it's a different year, you're doing it wrong.

A year is a period of time in which things happen. The length of the period does not matter. The moon returned to the same point it was 12 months ago. Nice job moon, we were hoping you'd do that again. Donald Trump's election would have definitely ruined the position of the moon relative to the earth.

Are new years made like new folders on your computer? Is it merely an effective way of organising your files?

It seems like we're just celebrating the creation of a new folder to dump stuff in. The calendar will be the same.

Returning to YouTube in 2017

Hey guys,

I know I've said a few times when I'm coming back and that it depends on how things at Uni goes, but after a few years of study I've realised that there is a way to do both. The problem in the past has been that, during a semester at Uni, I would come home straight after a lecture or tutorial. This would lead to being distracted by everything under the sun and not being able to perform at my best. The solution is longer hours at Uni to just chip away at everything so that I don't have to hand anything in at the last minute.

So I will be returning next year in November or whenever that year at Uni ends. I said before that it might be 2018, but I think that's overdoing it as currently there is only one course I would be doing that year to finish my degree.

Meanwhile, the group channel with Mickell Pickell and Angrove will hopefully launch before Christmas and we will start making videos. More details will come out when the channel launches and we've had our first meeting, which should take place tomorrow. This is the third attempt at organising a meeting, so fingers are crossed!

Disappointed with Civ 6 experience

The game itself plays fine. No problem with that. What I don't like is the fact that they thought it would be fine to release an unfinished product for some quick cash. Let's face it, they aren't short of cash. The Civilization series is very successful, Civ 5 was great (and still is) and two expansions was a good number. Civ 6 has been this: Game release with silly things missing (e.g. unable to name city), patch to fix what the developers thought was wrong (and make cities nameable), potential future patch to make the game more mod-able.
Religion is divine.

This is simply taking advantage of an industry that advocates half-assed games. It's easy to advertise the game like it's perfect, get people to pre-order it, release it without the necessary parts, and fix it up later on. I strongly disagree that this is a good idea. A reputable team like Firaxis know that some testing should have been done prior to release. Whatever testing was done was not effective enough to impress me. In fact, since the patch I've seen more problems. I actually had to force the game to close so I could get out of it. This was not a problem before the patch. It's lazy game development and shows that the industry (not assisted by Valve and/or Steam) advocates easy release of games. I payed $70 USD to get a game that was functioning fine, but the release of a patch which I had no choice to download led to the man-hole being revealed. Nice job Firaxis.

How long do I have to wait before the game works fine? Is it okay to pay this money for a game experience which is disappointing? Such an experience reminds me of when many people payed $60 USD for Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, a game that was not only unfinished, but rushed to completion. Luckily this case is only lazy, and disappointing to the point where I'm wondering whether I should even give them a second chance.

To be honest, I couldn't be bothered waiting for the game to fixed before buying it. I watched some YouTube videos and noticed how there was some disappointment in luxuries (like being able to name cities) being absent (as well as the presence of some unfair tricks (e.g. Spain's ability)).

Luckily I bought the game before it was patched so I can notice how awful the patch was. The game was not broken beyond being playable, but it almost is now.

Alternate History: Western Australia seceeds in 1933 referendum

Country name: Dominion of Western Australia

Scenario: Both Britain and the Commonwealth of Australia accept the results of the 1933 Western Australia referendum and allow it to become an independent country in the Commonwealth of Nations.
Source: Wikipedia
Modified from: Johomaps

Demograpics: Australian and British population in 1933. Today 2.5 million people of multiple cultural backgrounds.

Economy: Relies on revenue from oil and mining exports, primarily iron ore. In 1933 was primarily agricultural, but most of the revenue came from aforementioned exports.

Relationship with Australia: Free Trade Agreements and citizenship agreements allow easy accessibility for Western Australians and Commonwealth Australians across the border. This means that New Zealand would been the second country to get an FTA with Australia and not the first due to this alternate history.

History:
Great Depression recovery takes longer than in our timeline due to the significantly smaller population and budget.

During World War 2 Western Australia, on the side of the allies, is a more attractive target for Japan due to the smaller capacity to fight back. WA suffers more under Japanese bombings with more deaths, however the Japanese are eventually fended off with the support of Commonwealth Australia and the United States. WA soldiers played a significant role in defending Portuguese Timor against Japanese invasions. WA also signs the peace treaty with Japan alongside America, Britain, Australia and New Zealand. WA becomes involved in most regional events and organisations that Commonwealth Australia does. With less people in WA during the war, support for Britain was strained more due to WA's vulnerability being higher than the Commonwealth's. It is likely total independence from Britain could have been achieved had the country not been made up of mostly British and Australians people.

Like Australia, WA would send troops to Vietnam and Korea, contributing to the number of soldiers sent by Australia and New Zealand in our timeline.

The mining boom felt in our timeline is not experienced to such a large extent in this timeline due to there being less land, but there is still a boom. Commonwealth Australia feels a smaller boom than in our timeline, but it is still larger than that experienced by WA. This is due to the large amount of iron ore exported from Australia being from WA at almost 50%. So China still buys significant amounts of iron ore in both countries.

WA's dependence on oil revenue would be hugely effected by the 1970s oil crisis, where the Arab states in the Middle East raised their prices massively. WA would be hit harder than Commonwealth Australia due to the former selling a smaller amount of oil compared to the latter because of smaller territory.

The end of the mining boom and subsequent recession in our timeline would also hit WA harder due to a smaller population and budget, meaning higher unemployment and higher budget deficits than Commonwealth Australia. WA may try to be readmitted to the federation, but due to economic circumstances would be denied.

The Global Financial Crisis would hit WA far harder than Commonwealth Australia due to lacking the sufficient banking regulations that Commonwealth Australia introduced in the 1980s.

Overall, because WA has a smaller population and GDP than Commonwealth Australia, it would be hit harder in multinational economic crises. The effects of economic problems may provoke WA to try and rejoin the federation, but the burden would be off-putting for the Commonwealth. It may even lead to border closures to prevent Western Australians leaving the country for Commonwealth Australia. Nevertheless it would be more of a tourist attraction for Commonwealth Australians due to the political history between both countries.

Civ 5 Revolutions Mod Review

Hey guys,
For the past few days I've been playing the Revolutions Mod for Civ 5 by Gedemon. Gedemon is one of many popular modders for the game, and with his unique Revolutions mod he is clearly one of the more inspired developers.
Aside from my praise for Gedemon, I will outline a few things I've noticed about his mod.

Requirements:
Gods and Kings expansion

Problems:
Crashing around loading new turns. Get into the habit of saving every time something cool happens.

Gameplay:
My advice for playing the mod is that you should not try to expand your empire early.
  1. In my current playthrough as the Mayans on JFD's True Start Location Giant Earth map, the Iroquois expanded rapidly and are doomed to lose cities as they go.
Iroquois first revolution becomes briefly independent and then joins the Shoshone due to the large number of Shoshone people in the city.
Mirrors the American Revolution: Both the Iroquois and the Shoshone could not sustain all of their cities and expand at the same time.
Lake Simcoe: Revolted against the Iroquois and became independent. Then the independent city state could not keep its own people happy. So a second Revolution took place. I had gifted troops to the city state when it had Simcoe and Canandaigua Lake and even declared war on the Iroquois to help the new country expand, but clearly the revolution had its own plan.
World Revolution: The city state of RESERVED, formed out of Ormus, had a sister Revolution in the Americas, so now there's some kind of Global Revolutionary Empire. Lenin would be proud.
Confusing Revolution: Firstly there's the 'separatists' against the city of Lake Simcoe. Then there's the 'RESERVED separatists' against the Global Revolutionary Empire, known as RESERVED, thirdly there's the 'Iroquois separatists' against the Iroquois people. It's really confusing, but basically nobody likes the new regime.

Hello from Ethiopia: I hadn't actually met Ethiopia yet, but I could tell things weren't going well for them when some of their rebels went to North America to stir up trouble. Incredible.

  2. I tried rapid expansion in an earlier attempt as the Mayans, which led to my chances of revolution in every city reaching 100%, but only my larger cities (about 6 population) could declare independence by capturing my city. This meant that I couldn't use any of my cities for anything once the chances of revolution got so high. I couldn't even build colosseums to counter the chances of revolution because it was happening in every city.
I love this mod and the only reason people are complaining is because they are expanding their empires too quickly and are not focusing on local happiness in each city.

Hope this helps.
See Ya!

South East Asia and Oceania Scenario screenshots

Playing as... Myanmar (also known as Burma)
 Australia (South-East view)

 Australia (Northern Australia view)
 Brunei
Indonesia (Western view (not political view, haha!)
 Indonesia (Eastern view)
  Laos
 Singapore
East Timor (most difficult one to play in my opinion)
 Papua New Guinea (Economic powerhouse)
 Palau
 Malaysia
 Vietnam (Watch out for Cambodia!)
 Thailand
 Phillipines (Naval power)

 Cambodia
This is a modded scenario for Civlization 5. It requires the Brave New World and  Gods And Kings expansion packs as well as the Korea and Mongolia DLC. Currently there are no modded Civilizations in the scenario, but I will be looking into that at a later date.

City Without Skylines might be more fun

Hey guys,

Yesterday I came up with a new idea for City Without Skylines which would involve looking at other people's maps and making observations of what happens when you do nothing to fix them.

It's less similar to Day 200, but it's more fun to record and edit because of this. I may have said this before, but Cities: Skylines is not like Prison Architect and so I can't properly recreate Day 200 on a different game.

Rather than looking at different parts of one collapsing city across an entire series I might (because it's possible that things may change) look at one city per episode and just watch how it survives without the almighty player's intervention.

Welp! The toilet is now free.

Group channel ideas

Last night I spoke with Mickell Pickell about some of my ideas for the group channel we want to do with Angrove. Here are some of the channel art ideas I had, which also give ideas for content, names and imagery.

This last picture is Angrove's ideas that I drummed out of him. Some of them are jokes and others are serious thoughts.

Classic videos

Hey guys,

One thing I seem to keep forgetting to mention about when I return to my personal channels is that I will continue uploading old series that didn't finish for some reason.

I will upload the rest of my first time in Magicka. There were around 7 episodes and I uploaded only 5 of them I think. It was my first rage-quit and I'm pretty sure I stopped uploading them because they weren't getting any views.

Another series I will finish uploading is my first time playing Civilization 5 with Director (also known as Iceman) and his friend Carboose. I think there's only one video left to upload, which is the end. The audio quality sucked because Director's microphone was doing something stupid and echoing everything throughout the call.

I don't think there are any other videos that didn't get uploaded, but I do have some Source Filmmaker stuff that I want to put up, so I will do that as well.

That's everything,

See Ya!

Head in the Clouds

Hey guys,

Since the ihasnotomato blog and the AIM Industries blog have both changed their looks in the past few months, my background, which I've had since October 2011, should change as well. So as I did, almost 5 years ago, I browsed the backgrounds that blogger offers and chose one which I think should last for a while. A bright, happy blog may very well attract more people to my blog.

Khan and Spec Ops

Hey guys,

Today I finished the KhanGameplay history video. It's rendering right now.
Another thing is that I installed Spec Ops: The Line and will begin playing it at some point in the future. I'm a bit worn out from constantly editing or staring at a screen. I don't know which. Nevertheless I won't be recording episodes today I don't think, as the third hour of the afternoon has passed in the last half an hour.

I fixed up a few problems I had with the City without Skylines pilot episode and I now want to find interesting and action-packed locations to film episodes within my city. But as I said I am a bit worn out so for now I won't do any more. Maybe tomorrow or at some point before Uni starts again, which is in March.

That's all,
See Ya!

PS: I saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens last night and recorded some Bioshock with Angrove yesterday.

City without Skylines pilot

Hey guys,

So I made the pilot episode to see if I was on the right track for the series. I'm happy with it and it is pretty much like Prison Architect: Day 200 but with Cities: Skylines instead. A few things like time between new narrations and information about the character the Beaniebear plays will need to be fixed, but for now I'll give you the names of each audio file for the narrations:
WARNING: CONTAINS SWEAR WORDS

City without Skylines logo

So I've made the logo:
Hi, by the way.
I forgot to mention that I've been calling the game the wrong thing. The game's called Cities: Skylines and my series is called City without Skylines despite the fact that it isn't out yet and I have no idea what a skyline is. According to my Compact Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus it is "an outline of land and buildings seen against the sky", which I guess refers to when you're at ground level looking forwards with the sky above your head and the ground below your feet. Whatever. I understand its meaning and that's the point.

I recorded a behind the scenes session for Mabeanie2 where I work on the city and talk rubbish and occasionally say things that matter.
Cool,

City without Skylines

Hey guys,

I don't have a logo yet for this series, but I've made an intro for the project so it's definitely in the works.

Perhaps I haven't explained myself properly. Since I moved away from my personal channels on YouTube I've constantly wondered how I can bring MrMabeanie back in a way that resembles it when I left the channel. Similar in concept to Prison Architect: Day 200, City without Skylines will be another documentary-type series featuring the Beaniebear. I'll explain more later.

KhanGameplay History video

Hey guys,

So some of you may have heard of a guy on YouTube called KhanGameplay. Recently he not only closed his channel, but his Twitter and Google Plus profiles as well; which is a bit extreme as far as I'm concerned, but whatever.

I decided to download a bunch of his videos to capture the history of his channel, because it got pretty successful and reached 1000 subscribers.
I wrote down the important things like when the videos came out and took a screenshot of the 'about' page of the channel.

This isn't the only video I've done on the history of a YouTuber. I have done one on ChimneySwift11, Mickell Pickell and Ihasnochille and expect to do more. This one is different, though. Unlike the aforementioned YouTubers I had never watched (or at least I don't think I had) one of KhanGameplays videos but I have seen videos he's been in by Mickell Pickell, who I AM subscribed to.

So I think that what I'm doing is now quite important because the channel no longer exists. Unlike the other three channels I've covered, Khan's is one that had a place among YouTubers and when it disappeared a void has appeared. This isn't the first time I've seen a YouTuber do that. A while back I realised a person called DemiMonta had deleted their channel and disappeared off the face of the site, so I tried to work out what happened and came to the realisation that they'd just moved on, which happens from time to time.

I personally don't think deleting a channel is a good idea because you might want to go back to it or someone else might want to look at it, but everyone has their own decisions to make at times and that's what Khan did. I think that when my video on Khan's channel goes live a lot of people will be touched by the afforts I have made to capture the history of Khan's channel, but then some may be offended. Whatever.

See Ya!
